Immunologist who spent four decades engineering T cells to attack leukaemia and solid tumours.
Philip Greenberg is Head of the Program in Immunology at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and a past president of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). An immunologist who has spent four decades engineering T cells to attack leukaemia and solid tumours, he pioneered T-cell receptor-engineered cell therapy, including WT1-specific TCR-T for acute myeloid leukaemia after transplant and mesothelin-directed TCR-T for pancreatic cancer. His papers include a Nature Medicine report that T cell receptor gene therapy targeting WT1 prevents acute myeloid leukaemia relapse after transplant and an Advances in Immunology review of the mechanisms by which adoptively transferred T cells recognise and eliminate tumour cells. His work spans TCR-T and CAR-T cell therapy.
