Hans-Peter Kiem is a gene and cell therapy researcher working on editing blood stem cells inside the body.
Hans-Peter Kiem is Director of the Stem Cell and Gene Therapy Program at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. A physician-scientist specialising in gene therapy, stem cell transplantation and in vivo gene editing, he leads haematopoietic stem cell gene therapy and in vivo gene delivery research, including glioblastoma chemoprotection strategies and editing of blood stem cells inside the body. His papers include a Journal of Clinical Investigation report that gene therapy enhances chemotherapy tolerance and efficacy in glioblastoma patients and a Gene Therapy review of large animal models of haematopoietic stem cell gene therapy. His work touches glioma and glioblastoma, acute myeloid leukaemia, in vivo CAR-T and off-the-shelf cell therapy.
