Adoptive T-cell therapy pioneer whose defined-composition CAR-T work led to lisocabtagene maraleucel.
Stanley Riddell is Professor in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. An immunologist specialising in T-cell immunotherapy, CAR-T and adoptive cell transfer, he pioneered antigen-specific T-cell transfer for viral infections after transplant and later CD19 CAR-T with defined CD4:CD8 ratios, the basis of Juno Therapeutics and of lisocabtagene maraleucel (Breyanzi). His papers include the report of CD19 CAR-T cells of defined CD4+:CD8+ composition in adult B-cell ALL and the Science paper on restoring viral immunity in immunodeficient humans by adoptive transfer of T cell clones. He now works on CAR design and solid-tumour targets such as ROR1, with relevance to lymphoma and leukaemia.
