Virologist who mapped how Epstein-Barr virus drives nasopharyngeal cancer and is developing vaccines against it.
Mu-Sheng Zeng is Professor and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center in Guangzhou. A virologist, he mapped how Epstein-Barr virus drives nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and his group identified high-risk EBV subtypes linked to the disease and studies how the virus enters cells. His publications include a genome sequencing analysis identifying Epstein-Barr virus subtypes associated with a high risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. He is now developing prophylactic vaccine candidates against EBV, with interests in viral oncology and nasopharyngeal carcinoma biology.
