Immunologist who showed that the gut microbiome shapes responses to immunotherapy and chemotherapy.
Laurence Zitvogel is Research Director of INSERM U1015 at Gustave Roussy. An immunologist, her specialisms are tumour immunology, the gut microbiome and immunotherapy, and immunogenic cell death. With Guido Kroemer she co-discovered immunogenic cell death, and she led the studies linking gut microbiota composition to the response to immune checkpoint inhibitors. Her Science paper showed that the gut microbiome influences the efficacy of PD-1-based immunotherapy against epithelial tumours. This work opened the field of microbiome-directed cancer therapy, and her publications are listed on PubMed.
