AACR's tumour immunology journal: mechanisms of immune response and escape, checkpoint and cell-therapy biology and immune biomarkers.
Cancer Immunology Research (Cancer Immunol Res) is the tumour immunology journal of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), appearing monthly since 2013 and published by the society on a hybrid access model. It publishes basic and translational tumour immunology: mechanisms of immune response and escape, T-cell and myeloid biology in the microenvironment, checkpoint and cell-therapy biology, neoantigen and vaccine research and correlative studies from immunotherapy trials. Its readers are tumour immunologists and immunotherapy trialists, and its scope maps to OnCo's Immunotherapy area. It is linked from the biographies of Elizabeth Jaffee, Kellie Smith, Pawel Kalinski, Hatem Soliman and Elizabeth Mittendorf, and a reader would use it for immune biomarkers and mechanisms.
Surgeon-scientist who led IMpassion031 and studies of surgery de-escalation after neoadjuvant immunotherapy.
Pancreatic cancer immunologist who developed the GVAX vaccine and led national cancer policy panels.
Hatem Soliman is a breast oncologist leading immunotherapy and genomic-assay trials, including in triple-negative disease.
Developed the MANAFEST assay to track the tumour-specific T cells that immunotherapy awakens.
Physician-scientist who is Executive Director of the Mays Cancer Center at UT Health San Antonio, the only NCI-designated cancer centre in South Texas.
Pawel Kalinski is an immunologist reprogramming tumour microenvironments so T cells can enter.
Sang Joon Shin is a Yonsei medical oncologist active in colorectal cancer and melanoma immunotherapy trials.
He discovered the PD-1 molecule on T cells in 1992 and showed it acts as a brake on immune attack. Blocking it produced nivolumab and pembrolizumab, now used across dozens of cancers; Nobel Prize 2018.
The immunologist who, in 1989, first gave a T cell an antibody's aim. Every CAR-T product on the market descends from that experiment.
