Elisabete Weiderpass is Director of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the WHO's cancer research agency. A cancer epidemiologist, she has directed IARC since 2019, overseeing the Monographs programme that classifies carcinogens, the GLOBOCAN statistics that report the world's cancer burden, its cohort studies and the WHO Classification of Tumours. Her publications include a review asking whether early-onset cancer is an emerging global epidemic, a worldwide analysis of cervical cancer incidence and mortality, and a description of the Global Breast Cancer Initiative. Her interests span cancer epidemiology, prevention and research leadership.
