André Ilbawi is a surgical oncologist and the Technical Lead for Cancer Control at the World Health Organization, working with the International Agency for Research on Cancer. He steers the WHO's cervical cancer elimination strategy, the Global Breast Cancer Initiative and the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer, with a focus on cancer control policy, global health and access to medicines. His publications include a global analysis of national cancer control plans, a review of the growing burden, rising costs and unequal access in global cancer control, and a modelling study of the mortality impact of meeting the WHO cervical cancer elimination targets in low-income and lower-middle-income countries. His work connects HPV vaccination, screening and treatment into national programmes.
