Vincent Tuohy invented a preventive vaccine against triple-negative breast cancer, now in early human trials.
Vincent K. Tuohy holds the Mort and Iris November Distinguished Chair in Innovative Breast Cancer Research at the Lerner Research Institute, Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. He is an immunologist who invented a preventive vaccine against triple-negative breast cancer targeting alpha-lactalbumin, a protein expressed in the tumour but not in healthy non-lactating tissue. His selected paper describes targeted vaccination against human alpha-lactalbumin for immunotherapy and primary immunoprevention of triple-negative breast cancer. The vaccine entered phase 1 trials in 2021 with a prevention cohort in BRCA carriers.
