Suzanne Topalian led the first nivolumab trials showing PD-1 blockade works across several cancers.
Suzanne L. Topalian is the Bloomberg~Kimmel Professor of Cancer Immunotherapy and Associate Director of the Bloomberg~Kimmel Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is known for leading the first nivolumab trials showing that PD-1 blockade works across several cancers, as first author of the 2012 study establishing activity in melanoma, lung and kidney cancer. Her selected paper reports the safety, activity and immune correlates of anti-PD-1 antibody in cancer. She pioneered neoadjuvant immunotherapy as a scientific platform and continues to work on immune checkpoint inhibitors.
