Leads Japan's national cancer centre, the hub of the country's genomic medicine and early-phase trial programmes.
Hitoshi Nakagama is President of the National Cancer Center Japan, the hub of the country's genomic medicine and early-phase trial programmes. A molecular carcinogenesis researcher, he oversees the centre's hospitals in Tokyo and Kashiwa, its research institute, and national programmes such as SCRUM-Japan and cancer genomic medicine built on comprehensive genomic profiling. His publications include a study of how the tumour-suppressive microRNA miR-34a induces senescence-like growth arrest through the E2F pathway in colon cancer cells, and a review of fatty pancreas as a possible risk factor for pancreatic cancer. His interests span cancer research leadership, prevention and molecular carcinogenesis.
