Yuko Kitagawa is Professor of Surgery at Keio University, an oesophageal surgeon and a leader of the oesophageal group within the Japan Clinical Oncology Group. His JCOG trials define perioperative treatment for oesophageal cancer in Japan, including JCOG1109, known as NExT, which established triplet neoadjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma. His publications include the NExT comparison of neoadjuvant cisplatin plus 5-FU, docetaxel plus cisplatin plus 5-FU, and chemoradiotherapy, a Japanese counterpart to the CROSS approach. His interests are oesophageal cancer surgery, perioperative therapy and sentinel node navigation.
