The Osaka International Cancer Institute is the Osaka prefectural cancer centre, rebuilt as a dedicated cancer hospital in 2017; it performs high volumes of gastric, oesophageal and colorectal surgery and runs the Osaka Cancer Registry, one of Japan's most complete population registries.
The Osaka International Cancer Institute traces its history to the Osaka Adult Disease Center founded in 1959 and moved into a new dedicated cancer hospital in central Osaka in 2017. It is a designated prefectural cancer centre with high surgical volumes in gastric, oesophageal, colorectal, hepatobiliary and lung cancer, strong endoscopy (early gastric cancer ESD), and a research institute covering cancer epidemiology, molecular pathology and immunology. The institute runs the long-established Osaka Cancer Registry, one of Japan's most complete population-based registries, and participates in JCOG, WJOG and international registration trials. Patients have access to a phase 1 unit and genomic profiling under Japan's national cancer genome medicine programme.
