Prostate cancer trialist who helped bring abiraterone and sipuleucel-T to patients, and led ASCO in 2025-26.
Eric Small is Deputy Director and Chief Scientific Officer of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and served as President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for the 2025 to 2026 term. A medical oncologist specialising in prostate and genitourinary cancer, his trials underpinned approvals in castration-resistant prostate cancer, including the phase 3 sipuleucel-T and abiraterone studies. His papers include the placebo-controlled phase III trial of sipuleucel-T in metastatic asymptomatic hormone refractory prostate cancer and an Annals of Oncology report on apalutamide in non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. His work centres on the androgen receptor and clinical trials.
