Charles Blanke is a GI oncologist who chaired SWOG for a decade and led early imatinib trials in GIST.
Charles Blanke is Chief Medical Officer of the SWOG Cancer Research Network and Professor at Oregon Health & Science University. A gastrointestinal medical oncologist, he served as SWOG group chair from 2013 to 2025 before becoming chief medical officer. He led pivotal imatinib dose trials in gastrointestinal stromal tumour, reported in the Journal of Clinical Oncology as the phase III intergroup trial S0033 of imatinib at two dose levels in KIT-expressing GIST and the long-term results of a randomised phase II trial of standard versus higher-dose imatinib. His work spans sarcomas including GIST, colorectal cancer and clinical trial leadership.
