Sarcoma surgeon who led the ISG-STS 1001 trial of histology-tailored neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
Alessandro Gronchi is Chair of the Sarcoma Service at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, a surgeon whose specialisms are sarcoma surgery, retroperitoneal sarcoma and neoadjuvant chemotherapy. He is known for chairing ISG-STS 1001, the randomised trial that compared histology-tailored neoadjuvant chemotherapy with standard chemotherapy in high-risk soft-tissue sarcoma, and STRASS, which tested preoperative radiotherapy. His Lancet Oncology paper on ISG-STS 1001 set out how tailoring chemotherapy to sarcoma histotype compares with a standard regimen. He continues to lead the sarcoma surgical programme at INT Milan, with his publications listed on PubMed.
