Sirtex makes SIR-Spheres, yttrium-90 resin microspheres used for radioembolisation of liver tumours.
Sirtex Medical, based in Woburn, Massachusetts, and owned by China Grand Pharmaceutical, makes SIR-Spheres, yttrium-90 resin microspheres used for radioembolisation of liver tumours. SIR-Spheres are indicated in the United States for unresectable colorectal cancer metastatic to the liver and carry a CE mark for hepatocellular carcinoma, with the DOORwaY90 trial supporting a US indication in liver cancer, and they compete with Boston Scientific's TheraSphere glass microspheres. OnCo links it to hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal cancer and to the radioembolisation technology record. Whether radioembolisation earns a place alongside systemic immunotherapy combinations in liver cancer, rather than being displaced by them, is the open question. The technology page covers the evidence.
