Cellares builds the Cell Shuttle, a fully automated 'smart factory' for cell therapies, with BMS and Kite as partners.
Cellares, based in South San Francisco, builds the Cell Shuttle, a fully automated smart factory for cell therapies, with Bristol Myers Squibb and Kite as partners. It describes itself as an integrated development and manufacturing organisation, the Cell Shuttle automates the CAR-T process end to end, it raised a 255 million dollar Series C in 2023, signed manufacturing agreements with BMS in 2024 and with Kite, and has smart factories under construction in New Jersey and Japan. OnCo links it to closed automated cell-therapy manufacturing and to point-of-care and decentralised cell manufacturing. Whether automation cuts the cost and turnaround of CAR-T enough to widen access is the question its factories will answer. The closed manufacturing technology page carries the wider picture.
