The American Ewing sarcoma regimen beat the European one in a head-to-head trial, unifying practice.
Euro Ewing 2012, trial NCT00987636 sponsored by the University of Birmingham and the EuroEwing consortium and published in JCO in 2023, showed that the American Ewing sarcoma regimen, VDC/IE, beat the European VIDE/VAI regimen in a head-to-head trial, unifying practice. It randomised 640 newly diagnosed patients and found better event-free and overall survival with VDC/IE, with less toxicity and a shorter treatment duration, making it the international standard. OnCo links it to sarcomas, doxorubicin, ifosfamide, Douglas S. Hawkins, Uta Dirksen, the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group, SIOP Europe and the bottleneck of rare and paediatric cancers without markets. Whether further intensification or new agents can improve on VDC/IE is the open question.
