Takeshi Sano is a gastric surgeon and former Director of the Cancer Institute Hospital of JFCR in Tokyo. He is one of the world's authorities on gastric cancer surgery, including D2 lymphadenectomy, and on the Japanese staging and treatment guidelines. He led gastric surgery and hospital leadership at the Cancer Institute Hospital, chaired the Japanese gastric cancer treatment guideline committees and contributed to international TNM staging revisions. His publications include the fifth edition of the Japanese gastric cancer treatment guidelines, and his interests include minimally invasive surgery and staging systems.
