Applies evolutionary game theory to cancer treatment, dosing drugs to control rather than eradicate resistant clones.
Robert A. Gatenby is Chair of the Department of Radiology and Co-Director of the Center of Excellence for Evolutionary Therapy at Moffitt Cancer Center. He is a radiologist and mathematical oncologist known for applying evolutionary game theory to cancer treatment, dosing drugs to control rather than eradicate resistant clones. He founded Moffitt's Integrated Mathematical Oncology department and ran the first adaptive-therapy trial, using abiraterone in prostate cancer. His selected paper describes integrating evolutionary dynamics into the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.
