Showed how smoking-related lung cancers carry ten times the mutations of never-smokers' tumours.
Ramaswamy Govindan holds the Anheuser-Busch Chair in Medical Oncology and is Director of the Section of Medical Oncology at Siteman Cancer Center, Washington University. He is a thoracic oncologist known for leading the genomic characterisation of lung cancer in smokers and never-smokers, showing that smoking-related tumours carry ten times the mutations of never-smokers' tumours. His selected paper reports the genomic landscape of non-small-cell lung cancer in smokers and never-smokers. He has led multiple cooperative-group lung trials and continues to work on immunotherapy in lung cancer.
