Molecular oncologist who characterised PML-RARα in acute promyelocytic leukaemia and studies cancer stem cells.
Pier Giuseppe Pelicci is Director of Research at IEO, the European Institute of Oncology, in Milan and Professor at the University of Milan. A molecular oncologist, his specialisms are cancer biology, leukaemia, cancer stem cells and epigenetics. He characterised PML-RARα in acute promyelocytic leukaemia, and his work on that disease, on p66Shc and on stem cell self-renewal made IEO a leading basic research centre. His papers include a Cell Reports study of how p53 loss in breast cancer leads to Myc activation and increased cell plasticity, a study of humanised mice failing to reject human acute myeloid leukaemia cells, and a Nature Communications paper showing caloric restriction expands druggable LSD1-dependent cancer stem cells. His publications are listed on PubMed.
