Led INTERLACE, which showed a short course of chemotherapy before chemoradiation cuts cervical cancer deaths using cheap, available drugs.
Mary McCormack was chief investigator of INTERLACE, the international trial showing six weeks of induction carboplatin and paclitaxel before standard chemoradiotherapy improves progression-free and overall survival in locally advanced cervical cancer, a result immediately implementable in low-resource settings where most cervical cancer occurs. She leads gynaecological radiotherapy research at UCLH.
