Led CLARINET, which showed lanreotide slows tumour growth and made somatostatin analogues first-line antiproliferative therapy for NETs.
Martyn Caplin (Royal Free Hospital, London) was principal investigator of CLARINET, the trial showing lanreotide markedly prolongs progression-free survival in non-functioning gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours, establishing somatostatin analogues as antiproliferative therapy rather than only symptom control. He leads one of Europe's largest NET centres and has chaired the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society.
