Breast and lung oncologist who led the trials showing gene tests can guide chemotherapy decisions.
Kathy Albain is Vice Chair for Clinical Trials Partnerships at SWOG and Professor of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago. A breast and lung medical oncologist specialising in genomic assays, she led SWOG 8814, the study of Oncotype DX in node-positive disease, co-led RxPONDER (SWOG S1007), and chaired SWOG trials in stage III lung cancer. Her papers include a Lancet Oncology retrospective analysis of the prognostic and predictive value of the 21-gene recurrence score in postmenopausal women with node-positive, oestrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer on chemotherapy and the New England Journal of Medicine report of the 21-gene assay to inform chemotherapy benefit in node-positive breast cancer. Her record also links to TAILORx.
