Heather Wakelee is a lung cancer leader who led the first adjuvant immunotherapy trial to change practice.
Heather Wakelee is Chief of the Division of Medical Oncology and Deputy Director of the Stanford Cancer Institute, and a past president of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. A thoracic medical oncologist specialising in lung cancer and perioperative immunotherapy, she was principal investigator of IMpower010, the adjuvant atezolizumab trial that was the first adjuvant immunotherapy trial to change practice, and of KEYNOTE-671, the perioperative pembrolizumab trial. Her papers report IMpower010 in the Lancet and perioperative pembrolizumab for early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer in the New England Journal of Medicine. Her work spans immune checkpoint inhibitors and global oncology.
