NCI CDAS holds the lung screening trial images that trained Sybil and most lung-nodule AI. The collection includes low-dose CT images and outcomes from the National Lung Screening Trial, which enrolled 53,000 smokers, together with PLCO screening data, available to approved researchers through a data access request. The NLST CT archive has become the standard resource for building lung cancer risk models. It is maintained by the NCI, is linked to the National Cancer Institute (NIH) and to the technology Sybil (MIT/MGH lung cancer risk from CT), and is referenced by the paper on the NLST result that yearly low-dose CT scans cut lung cancer deaths in heavy smokers.
