Tests whether removing only the first draining lymph nodes is safe enough to spare women the lymphoedema of full node removal.
SENTICOL III, trial NCT03386734 sponsored by ARCAGY-GINECO and ENGOT, tests whether removing only the first draining lymph nodes is safe enough in early-stage cervical cancer to spare women the lymphoedema of full pelvic lymphadenectomy. It is a non-inferiority trial of about 950 patients comparing sentinel lymph node biopsy alone with sentinel node biopsy plus full lymphadenectomy, with disease-free survival and quality of life as endpoints, following the SENTICOL I and II accuracy studies and the single-arm SENTIX trial, with readout expected in 2027 to 2028. OnCo links it to cervical cancer and sentinel lymph node biopsy. It is recruiting with no results, and whether the sentinel-only approach that is now standard in endometrial cancer holds in cervical cancer, where missed nodal disease is harder to salvage, is the question it will answer.
