CELF2 (CUGBP Elav-like family member 2) is a protein that switches other genes on and off. In the public catalogues the evidence so far is association rather than a proven role.
RNA-binding protein implicated in the regulation of several post-transcriptional events. Involved in pre-mRNA alternative splicing, mRNA translation and stability. Mediates exon inclusion and/or exclusion in pre-mRNA that are subject to tissue-specific and developmentally regulated alternative splicing.
Open Targets scores its association with cancer at 0.52 (direct and indirect evidence; datatypes literature 0.96, genetic association 0.64).

No product in this corpus aims at CELF2 yet. Transcription factors have no pocket to plug, so drugs either degrade them or block the partner protein they need to dock on DNA.
First described 1998. Earliest sequence paper UniProt cites for the protein: Choi D.-K. et al, Gene, 1998, "Fluorescent differential display analysis of gene expression in apoptotic neuroblastoma cells". Source.

Specifically activates exon 5 inclusion of TNNT2 in embryonic, but not adult, skeletal muscle. Activates TNNT2 exon 5 inclusion by antagonising the repressive effect of PTB. Acts both as an activator and as a repressor of a pair of coregulated exons: promotes inclusion of the smooth muscle (SM) exon but exclusion of the non-muscle (NM) exon in actinin pre-mRNAs. Location: Nucleus; Cytoplasm (UniProt). Locus 10p14 (HGNC).
