AGK (Acylglycerol kinase, mitochondrial) is a protein kinase, an enzyme that switches other proteins on by adding phosphate groups. In the public catalogues the evidence so far is association rather than a proven role.
Lipid kinase that can phosphorylate both monoacylglycerol and diacylglycerol to form lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) and phosphatidic acid (PA), respectively. Does not phosphorylate sphingosine. Phosphorylates ceramide.
Open Targets scores its association with cancer at 0.57 (direct and indirect evidence; datatypes literature 0.95, affected pathway 0.89, genetic association 0.00).

No product in this corpus aims at AGK yet. Kinases are switched on by binding ATP inside the cell, so most drugs are small molecules shaped to plug that ATP pocket.

Lipid kinase that can phosphorylate both monoacylglycerol and diacylglycerol to form lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) and phosphatidic acid (PA), respectively. Does not phosphorylate sphingosine. Phosphorylates ceramide. Phosphorylates 1,2-dioleoylglycerol more rapidly than 2,3-dioleoylglycerol. Independently of its lipid kinase activity, acts as a component of the TIM22 complex. The TIM22 complex mediates the import and insertion of multi-pass transmembrane proteins into the mitochondrial inner membrane by forming a twin-pore translocase that uses the membrane potential as the external driving force. Location: Mitochondrion inner membrane; Mitochondrion intermembrane space (UniProt). Locus 7q34 (HGNC).
