Showed that gene expression could classify cancers, then built the Broad into the engine of cancer genomics.
Todd R. Golub is Director of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and Charles A. Dana Investigator at Dana-Farber. He is known for showing that gene expression could classify cancers, with a 1999 leukaemia classification paper that launched expression-based cancer taxonomy, and for building the Broad into the engine of cancer genomics as founding director of its cancer programme. His selected papers report the molecular classification of cancer by gene expression monitoring and the discovery of anticancer potential in non-oncology drugs through systematic viability profiling. His laboratory created the PRISM pooled cell-line screening platform behind DepMap, and he has been Broad director since 2020.
