Epidemiologist whose studies underpin colonoscopy and stool-test screening for bowel cancer.
Hermann Brenner is Head of Clinical Epidemiology and Aging Research at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. An epidemiologist, his specialisms are cancer epidemiology, colorectal cancer screening and early detection. His population studies quantified the protective effect of colonoscopy and measured the performance of faecal immunochemical tests, informing bowel cancer screening programmes across Europe. His Annals of Internal Medicine paper was a population-based case-control study of protection from colorectal cancer after colonoscopy. His work underpins colonoscopy and stool-test screening, and his publications are listed on PubMed.
