Turkey's pioneering academic cancer institute in Ankara, with strong paediatric oncology, radiation oncology and preventive oncology programmes.
Hacettepe University's Cancer Institute was established in 1982 alongside the university's oncology hospital and trains Turkey's medical, radiation and paediatric oncologists. Its paediatric oncology department, built by Münevver Büyükpamukçu, is a national referral centre for childhood cancers, the radiation oncology department has advanced brachytherapy and stereotactic programmes, and the institute runs departments of preventive oncology, basic oncology and clinical oncology. Hacettepe investigators contribute to Turkish Oncology Group trials and international studies in lung, breast and gastrointestinal cancers, and the university's hospitals provide surgery, transplantation and nuclear medicine for patients from across Turkey.
