BioAtla is a San Diego biotech whose conditionally active antibodies switch on in the acidic surroundings of a tumour and stay quiet in healthy tissue, the basis of its drug conjugates and the CTLA-4 antibody BA3071.
BioAtla develops conditionally active biologics (CAB) that bind their target under the low pH of the tumour microenvironment but not at the physiological pH of normal tissue, widening the therapeutic window. Its clinical programmes include the AXL conjugate mecbotamab vedotin, the ROR2 conjugate ozuriftamab vedotin, the EpCAM x CD3 bispecific BA3182 and the CTLA-4 antibody BA3071, which is being tested with nivolumab.
BA3071 is an experimental monoclonal antibody from BioAtla in phase 2 trials for non-small-cell lung cancer and melanoma, aimed at CTLA-4.
