Adienne Pharma and Biotech, based in Lugano, is a Swiss company specialising in haematology and transplantation medicines, and it holds the US and EU authorisations for thiotepa, sold as Tepadina. It developed Tepadina as an orphan medicine for conditioning before haematopoietic stem cell transplantation, authorised in the European Union in 2010 and the United States in 2017, and it markets other transplant-related products in Europe. OnCo links it to the thiotepa drug record. Whether orphan status for a long-established chemotherapy serves patients or mainly protects price is the fair question its flagship product raises. Thiotepa has its own page.
Thiotepa is an old chemotherapy with a modern job: at high doses it prepares patients for stem cell transplants, and it is still instilled into the bladder or body cavities for superficial bladder cancer and malignant effusions.
