A second immunotherapy confirmed that adding a checkpoint inhibitor to chemotherapy plus bevacizumab extends life in advanced cervical cancer.
BEATcc, also ENGOT-Cx10 and GOG-3030, trial NCT03556839 sponsored by GEICO and Roche and published in the Lancet in 2024, was the second immunotherapy trial to confirm that adding a checkpoint inhibitor to chemotherapy plus bevacizumab extends life in metastatic, persistent or recurrent cervical cancer. It randomised 410 patients to atezolizumab or nothing added to platinum, paclitaxel and bevacizumab, met its primary progression-free and overall survival endpoints with the longest median survival reported in this setting, and showed benefit irrespective of PD-L1 status. OnCo links it to cervical cancer, PD-L1 and VEGF as targets, atezolizumab, bevacizumab, cisplatin, paclitaxel and Antonio González-Martín. Regulatory approval status differs by region, and whether a PD-L1 antibody offers anything over pembrolizumab in this setting is the open question.
