Immunologist who showed PD-L1 on tumours suppresses T cells and linked interferon to ferroptosis.
Weiping Zou is the Charles B. de Nancrede Professor of Surgery, Immunology, Biology and Pathology and Director of the Center of Excellence for Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center. He is an immunologist known for showing that PD-L1 on tumours suppresses T cells, defining immunosuppressive mechanisms in the tumour microenvironment including B7-H1/PD-L1 and myeloid suppression. His selected paper shows that CD8-positive T cells regulate tumour ferroptosis during cancer immunotherapy. He continues to study PD-L1 biology and the link between interferon, ferroptosis and immunity.
