Mayo Clinic urologist who led the trial of nadofaragene firadenovec, the first gene therapy approved for bladder cancer that no longer responds to BCG.
Stephen Boorjian chairs the department of urology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He was first author of the 2021 Lancet Oncology report of the phase 3 trial of intravesical nadofaragene firadenovec, an adenoviral vector delivering the interferon alfa-2b gene, in BCG-unresponsive non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer; about half of patients with carcinoma in situ had a complete response, the basis of the first gene therapy approval in bladder cancer. He also publishes on outcomes after cystectomy and nephrectomy.
