Radiation oncologist who led intraoperative radiotherapy trials and directs research at IEO.
Roberto Orecchia is Scientific Director of IEO, the European Institute of Oncology, in Milan. A radiation oncologist, his specialisms are radiation oncology, intraoperative radiotherapy and proton therapy, alongside modern image-guided external beam techniques. He led ELIOT, the randomised phase 3 equivalence trial of intraoperative electron radiotherapy in early breast cancer, whose long-term recurrence outcomes were reported in The Lancet Oncology. His other papers include a study of seroconversion in patients with cancer and oncology health care workers infected by SARS-CoV-2, and a review of machine learning models for predicting toxicity outcomes in radiotherapy. His publications are listed on PubMed.
