Toshihiko Doi is Director of the Department of Experimental Therapeutics at the National Cancer Center Hospital East in Japan. He runs one of Asia's most productive phase 1 units and led the first-in-human study of DS-8201, the Daiichi Sankyo antibody-drug conjugate now known as trastuzumab deruxtecan, along with numerous other first-in-class studies in solid tumours. His publications include the phase 1 dose-escalation study of trastuzumab deruxtecan in patients with advanced breast and gastric or gastro-oesophageal tumours. His interests are phase 1 trials, drug development, gastrointestinal oncology and antibody-drug conjugates. He also directs National Cancer Center Hospital East in Kashiwa, one of the main sites for first-in-human oncology trials in Japan, and led pivotal work on trastuzumab deruxtecan and trifluridine/tipiracil in gastric cancer.
