Surgical oncologist who led the EORTC adjuvant ipilimumab and pembrolizumab trials in melanoma.
Alexander Eggermont is Chief Scientific Officer of the Princess Máxima Center and Professor at Utrecht, and a former President of the EORTC and Director General of Gustave Roussy. A surgical oncologist by training, he specialises in melanoma and adjuvant immunotherapy. He led the EORTC trials that tested adjuvant checkpoint blockade in stage III melanoma: EORTC 18071 of adjuvant ipilimumab and KEYNOTE-054 of adjuvant pembrolizumab, the latter reported in the New England Journal of Medicine as a placebo-controlled trial of pembrolizumab after resection. His work helped establish immunotherapy after surgery in melanoma, and his publications are listed on PubMed.
