TYRP1 (5,6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid oxidase) is an enzyme. In the public catalogues the evidence so far is association rather than a proven role. Tied to Skin cancer. This dossier gathers the 0 products (0 approved), 0 trials, 0 pathways and 0 resistance routes in the corpus that involve it, with external identifiers so it can be joined to UniProt, ChEMBL, Open Targets and the rest of biology.
Plays a role in melanin biosynthesis. Catalyses the oxidation of 5,6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid (DHICA) into indole-5,6-quinone-2-carboxylic acid in the presence of bound Cu(2+) ions, but not in the presence of Zn(2+). May regulate or influence the type of melanin synthesised. Also to a lower extent, capable of hydroxylating tyrosine and producing melanin. Location: Melanosome membrane (UniProt). Locus 9p23 (HGNC).
