Open-wafer sequencing (UG 100) claiming a $100 genome, aimed at population-scale and deep ctDNA sequencing.
Ultima Genomics, based in Fremont, California, makes the UG 100 open-wafer sequencer, marketed on the claim of a 100 dollar genome and aimed at population-scale and deep circulating tumour DNA sequencing. It launched commercially in 2024, is used by Exact Sciences and others for high-depth cell-free DNA, and raised more than 600 million dollars in 2022 with further rounds since. OnCo links it to new short-read sequencing platforms. Whether cheaper sequencing at depth makes blood-based cancer detection and residual disease testing affordable at population scale is the open question. The short-read platforms page carries the wider picture.
