Portable and high-throughput nanopore sequencing, used for rapid intraoperative brain-tumour classification and structural variant detection.
Oxford Nanopore Technologies, based in Oxford and listed as ONT.L, makes portable and high-throughput nanopore sequencers used for rapid intraoperative brain tumour classification and structural variant detection. Its MinION, GridION and PromethION instruments read methylation in real time, which enables central nervous system tumour classification in under an hour through Rapid-CNS2, and its Q20+ chemistry has been clinical-grade since 2023. OnCo links it to long-read sequencing and DNA methylation profiling. Whether intraoperative sequencing changes surgical decisions often enough to be adopted widely is the open question. The long-read sequencing page carries the wider picture.
