Dutch-Swiss company releasing open pathology foundation models (Midnight) and evaluation tooling (eva).
kaiko.ai, based in Amsterdam and Zurich, is a Dutch-Swiss company releasing open pathology foundation models, the Midnight series, and the eva evaluation framework. Midnight-12k, released in 2025, reached leading benchmark scores with a fraction of the training slides used by competitors, and eva is an open framework for evaluating pathology foundation models. OnCo links it to the Midnight technology record. Whether data efficiency, rather than sheer archive size, becomes the deciding factor in pathology models is the question its results raise. Midnight has its own technology page.
