The decisions you may face, the aids that walk through them, the warnings on record, the first sixty days and the questions to ask.
One section per setting: the options named, what each is for, the trials behind them, the recorded trade-offs and the questions to ask.
Answer a few questions from a report and read the guideline statement that applies, quoted word for word with its source. Educational aids to prepare for an appointment, not advice.
Fainting, near-fainting, or an irregular or racing heartbeat; several kinase inhibitors prolong the QT interval and the labels require ECG and electrolyte monitoring.
Bleeding that does not stop by itself, bleeding from more than one site, or new bruising in several places or one large area.
Persistent headache with extreme tiredness, nausea, dizziness on standing or low blood pressure. Vomiting, severe weakness or collapse is adrenal crisis.
Fever, cough or breathlessness, rapid weight gain or swelling, bone pain, low blood pressure or reduced urine; the labels say to start steroids and monitor at the first suspicion, and the syndrome has been fatal.
Breathing very fast; confused, slurred speech or not making sense; blue, pale or blotchy skin; a very high or very low temperature, feeling hot or cold to the touch, or shivery; a rash that does not fade when pressed: the NHS says call 999 or go to A&E.
Vomiting blood (bright red, brown, black or like coffee granules) together with feeling unwell, confused, faint or dizzy, rapid or shallow breathing, cold clammy pale skin, tummy pain or black poo: the NHS says call 999 or go to A&E. If the vomiting of blood has stopped and there are no other symptoms, ask for an urgent GP appointment or call 111.
