NIN (Ninein) is a gene whose normal job is to hold cell growth in check. The public catalogues list it as an oncogene driver and a tumour suppressor, and it is called a cancer driver by mutation analysis of patient cohorts. Tied to Colorectal cancer, Mesothelioma, Gastric & gastro-oesophageal junction cancer and 1 more. This dossier gathers the 0 products (0 approved), 0 trials, 0 pathways and 0 resistance routes in the corpus that involve it, with external identifiers so it can be joined to UniProt, ChEMBL, Open Targets and the rest of biology.
Centrosomal protein required in the positioning and anchorage of the microtubule minus-end in epithelial cells. May also act as a centrosome maturation factor. May play a role in microtubule nucleation, by recruiting the gamma-tubulin ring complex to the centrosome. Overexpression does not perturb nucleation or elongation of microtubules but suppresses release of microtubules. Required for centriole organisation and microtubule anchoring at the mother centriole. Location: Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, microtubule organizing center, centrosome; Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, microtubule organizing center, centrosome, centriole; Cell junction, desmosome; Cytoplasm (UniProt). Locus 14q22.1 (HGNC).
