It does not treat breast cancer or reduce recurrence. Venous thromboembolism and fatal stroke in women with coronary disease carry a boxed warning.","status":"approved","asOf":"2026-09-10","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raloxifene","links":[{"label":"US label (DailyMed)","url":"https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/search.cfm?labeltype=all&query=raloxifene"},{"label":"NCI drug page","url":"https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/drugs/raloxifenehydrochloride"}],"tags":["nci-list","prevention"],"related":["tamoxifen"],"cancers":["breast-hr-positive"],"sections":[],"technologies":["chemoprevention","endocrine-therapy"],"targets":["estrogen-receptor"],"drugs":[],"companies":["eli-lilly"],"institutions":[],"pathways":[],"terms":[],"trials":["nct06062810"],"people":[],"bottlenecks":[],"keyPapers":[],"journals":[],"dependsOn":[],"notes":[],"brand":"Evista","modality":"Selective oestrogen receptor modulator (benzothiophene)","mechanism":"Oestrogen receptor agonist in bone and antagonist in breast and uterus; lowers the incidence of ER-positive invasive breast cancer.","approvals":[{"region":"US","year":1997,"indication":"Treatment and prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis"},{"region":"US","year":2007,"indication":"Reduction in risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis or at high risk"}],"mechanismSteps":[],"toxicity":[],"access":[],"regulatoryEvents":[]},"route":"/drugs/raloxifene/","neighbours":{"drug":[{"id":"tamoxifen","kind":"drug","name":"Tamoxifen","route":"/drugs/tamoxifen/"}],"cancer":[{"id":"breast-hr-positive","kind":"cancer","name":"HR-positive / HER2-negative breast cancer","route":"/cancers/breast-hr-positive/"}],"technology":[{"id":"chemoprevention","kind":"technology","name":"Chemoprevention & risk-reducing surgery","route":"/technologies/chemoprevention/"},{"id":"endocrine-therapy","kind":"technology","name":"Endocrine therapy (SERMs, AIs, SERDs)","route":"/technologies/endocrine-therapy/"}],"target":[{"id":"estrogen-receptor","kind":"target","name":"Estrogen receptor (ERα)","route":"/targets/estrogen-receptor/"}],"company":[{"id":"eli-lilly","kind":"company","name":"Eli Lilly (incl.
