{"entity":{"id":"propsma","kind":"trial","name":"proPSMA","aka":[],"tldr":"Proved PSMA PET is far more accurate than conventional scans for staging, with less radiation.","summary":"proPSMA, registered as ANZCTR12617000005358, sponsored by Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and ANZUP and reported in the Lancet in 2020, proved that PSMA PET/CT is far more accurate than CT plus bone scan for staging high-risk localised prostate cancer, with less radiation. It randomised 302 men, found an accuracy of 92 percent for PSMA PET against 65 percent for conventional imaging, produced fewer equivocal findings and changed management more often. OnCo links it to PSMA PET, Peter MacCallum, ANZUP, Michael Hofman, Ian Davis and Declan G. Murphy, and its findings are consistent with the OSPREY and CONDOR studies for the fluorine-18 tracer DCFPyL. Whether better staging translates into better outcomes, rather than only different decisions, is the open question that follows any diagnostic accuracy trial. PSMA PET has its own page.","status":"positive","asOf":"2026-09-06","links":[{"label":"Lancet 2020","url":"https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30314-7/fulltext"}],"tags":[],"related":[],"cancers":["prostate","prostate-high-risk"],"sections":[],"technologies":["psma-pet"],"targets":[],"drugs":[],"companies":["anzup"],"institutions":["peter-mac"],"pathways":[],"terms":[],"trials":[],"people":["ian-davis","declan-murphy","hofman-michael"],"bottlenecks":[],"keyPapers":["paper-propsma-hofman-lancet-2020"],"journals":[],"dependsOn":[],"notes":[],"nct":"ANZCTR12617000005358","phase":"3","setting":"High-risk localised prostate cancer staging: PSMA PET/CT vs CT + bone scan","sponsor":"Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre / ANZUP","result":"Accuracy 92% vs 65%.","yearReported":2020,"enrolled":302,"enrolledBasis":"registry","outcomes":[{"endpoint":"Accuracy for pelvic nodal or distant metastases (AUC)","primary":true,"unit":"%","arms":[{"name":"PSMA PET/CT","n":150,"value":92},{"name":"CT + bone scan","n":152,"value":65}],"p":"<0.0001","source":"https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30314-7/fulltext"}],"replication":"Consistent with the OSPREY and CONDOR registrational studies for 18F-DCFPyL."},"route":"/trials/propsma/","neighbours":{"cancer":[{"id":"prostate-high-risk","kind":"cancer","name":"Localised prostate cancer, high and very high risk","route":"/cancers/prostate-high-risk/"},{"id":"prostate","kind":"cancer","name":"Prostate cancer","route":"/cancers/prostate/"}],"technology":[{"id":"psma-pet","kind":"technology","name":"PSMA PET","route":"/technologies/psma-pet/"}],"company":[{"id":"anzup","kind":"company","name":"ANZUP Cancer Trials Group","route":"/companies/anzup/"}],"institution":[{"id":"peter-mac","kind":"institution","name":"Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre","route":"/institutions/peter-mac/"}],"person":[{"id":"declan-murphy","kind":"person","name":"Declan G.
